Ecohydrology
at the University of Toronto
Dr. Brian Branfireun completed his PhD (1999) at McGill University in Montreal, under the supervision of Dr. Nigel Roulet. Brian is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. His appointment is at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, where he teaches undergraduate courses in hydrology and wetlands. He teaches graduate level courses through the Graduate Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto.
Outside of the University, Dr. Branfireun serves as the President for the Canadian Geophysical Union - Hydrology Section, is the Canadian National Correspondent for Water Quality with the International Association of Hydrological Sciences, and is a host scientist for the 10th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant to be held in 2011 in Halifax, Canada.
RESEARCH Philosophy
Taking an interdisciplinary environmental science approach, Dr. Branfireun and his students seek to understand of the bidirectional nature of hydrological – ecological interactions at a range of scales. They direct their efforts toward ecosystems that are particularly sensitive to the impacts of natural and human-induced environmental change.
Opportunities
Studying the hydrological controls on watershed element cycling and ecological function.
