Term Paper

The papers are due by April 1, 5PM. There will be a drop-off box in front of Room Davis 3284.

Here are the detailed instructions to write your proposal and essay

The first thing to do is to look up the Term Paper Evaluation Sheet (PDF document).
It is not only an evaluation sheet, but also an instruction sheet. It will tell you exactly what I am looking for in your paper and how it will be graded. Please read it carefully, try to address each point and don’t forget to include it at the end of your term paper.

In short, here is what I expect to find in your term paper.

Introduction

• What are you interested in (broad outline)?
• Why should we care?
• Limitations
• Methodology
• Plan

Main section(s)

• Broader context / Different perspectives on your topic
• More detailed description of your topic
• Indicators, concepts (definitions) if relevant
• Findings
• Synthesis

Conclusion

• Why was your work relevant?
• What did you learn?
• What should be the logical next step (or what else would be interesting)?

References

At least 5 academic references. You are expected to be familiar with the relevant suggested readings listed on the GGR 287 Webpage, even though you might not use them directly in your term paper.

At the end of your review essay, include the following 2 attachments:
Appendix 1: Marked Proposal
Appendix 2: Review Essay Evaluation Sheet (identified)

The University of Toronto Mississauga Library staff has compiled  several links on researching and writing term papers. Look them up.
