The term paper proposal is due on October 2, 2h10PM at
the beginning of class.
Failure to turn in your proposal at the beginning of class will
result in a penalty of 1 point (out of 5). Failure to turn in your
proposal immediately once the class has ended will result in a grade of
0.
|
No cover page (but
name(s) and student number(s), course number and title)
1-2 page(s) (ideally 1 page or 1 sheet of paper printed on both
sides)
Tentative title (be more explicit rather than less)
1-2 paragraph(s) (single spaced) on why you chose the topic
5 academic references (including name of the author, title,
journal, journal issue, year of publication, pages). You can use
some of the suggested readings listed on the GGR 333 Webpage as primary
references. Reports from governmental agencies and think tanks are
also acceptable, but you must provide me with the link to the
relevant webpage. |
The GGR 333 Webpage was designed to help you find
valuable and credible material on almost any topic related to this
course. Please make an effort to look it up, beginning with the
suggested readings. You are expected to be familiar with the suggested
readings that are directly relevant to your term paper. The point of
this is to make sure that you get the basic facts right and are not just
parroting some wild and untenable claim from an amateur Website.

How do I choose a book for the review essay? |
UofT libraries are among the best in North America.
Select a topic and see what's there.
Look up the links listed on my Website.
You really don't have a clue: Talk to me during my office hours (and
don't wait too long)
Choose an interesting topic rather than a shorter
book
Look up more than 1 book before making up your mind
Single-authored books are usually more coherent and easier to review
It is easier to be critical when you disagree with the author.

Read the instructions for each database carefully. The UTL personnel
have gone to great length to help facilitate your use of these
resources.
Not all indexes provide direct links with the journals in which you will
find the book reviews. You might have to go back to the
UTL Website and
look up the catalogue to find the issue of the journal in which the book
review was published.
